# Proxus dashboard items

> The items Proxus adds to the dashboard designer, next to the standard charts, grids and gauges. What each one is for, the data it takes and its settings.

The dashboard designer has two kinds of items. The standard ones (charts, grids, cards, gauges, pies, maps) come from
the dashboard engine Proxus is built on; the
[DevExpress dashboard documentation](https://docs.devexpress.com/Dashboard/116523/basic-concepts-and-terminology/dashboard-items)
describes them. Proxus adds its own items for plant screens: machine and line states, OEE, asset health, flows and
timelines. This part of the documentation describes those.

## How a Proxus item works

Every Proxus item works the same way as a standard one:

- **Data fields.** You give the item columns of the dashboard's data source. A field is either a **dimension** (a
name, a time, a category: what the item groups by) or a **measure** (a number the item adds up). Each item's page
lists its fields, with the ones it cannot do without.
- **Settings.** Options of the item itself, such as thresholds or what to show. Each page lists them with their
  default values.
- **Filtering.** Where the page says so, selecting a part of the item (a tile, a bar, a row) filters the other items
  of the dashboard by it.

To add one, open the dashboard, select **Switch to Design Mode** and pick the item in the designer's toolbox by its
icon. See [Use and build dashboards](https://proxus.io/docs/analyze/dashboards) for design mode and for the data a dashboard can use.
